US markets are closed for the weekend, so the figures below reflect the latest close on Friday 16 October. All three major indices finished the session lower.

Indices

  • S&P 500: 7,659.44, down 1.09%
  • Dow Jones: 52,002.41, down 0.34%
  • Nasdaq Composite: 26,140.03, down 2.15%

The Nasdaq Composite recorded the steepest fall of the three, and the Dow Jones the smallest.

On currencies, the latest quote has the pound at $1.3329, up 0.42% against the dollar. When sterling strengthens against the dollar, US holdings are worth slightly less in pound terms for UK investors, all else being equal.

In the news

  • Weekend headlines from Investing.com report that Meta received a Street-high price target from an analyst this week, in a round-up of the week's biggest AI-related analyst moves. The headline does not explain Friday's share price move.
  • Reports say Iambic Therapeutics has been added to the Nasdaq Composite following a busy October that included its stock market listing.

Overall, US shares ended the week on a weaker note, with the Nasdaq Composite falling furthest and the pound edging up against the dollar.
